Loud fans on Dell 1750 server - How to make quiet

1. Make sure you have BIOS revision A08 or higher installed. (Contains a modification to slow the fans down)
2. When you first fire up the box, the fans will run at high speed (loud). Right at the beginning of POST, they should kick down to slow/quiet mode. However, often, before POST is complete, the fans (even with the A08 BIOS update) will kick back to high speed. When that happens during POST, hit the power button on the server. Wait 5 seconds and turn it back on. Fans may (and sometimes may not) start in high, but will slow down at the beginning of POST and typically stay slow unless the server starts getting overheated. Without killing the power during POST, the fans will tend to stay at high speed indefinitely.
