Great information. I suppose it would be best to run this as a scheduled task instead of leaving the cmd window open permanently.

Win2k Pro can only use its Domain Controller as an NTP source. 2k Server (and above, I imagine) can use external timesources. This is why setting the NTP server as clock.isc.org or similar does not work in 2k Pro. Use a 3rd party shareware utility like Atomic Sync or the like for standalone Pro boxes.

Hi,

I think it`s not necessary to set up a scheduled task but there is a build-in service which can be started automatically.
I`m not shure which is the crucial step, determine the NTP-Timeserver with "net time /setsntp:..."
or the "w32tm ..." part.

The last time I set up the NTP-Service I started up the windows-service, whose name I can't recall at the moment, but I am not really sure it worked, because I have no direct access to this particular machine to prove it.
At least the time is set up correctly, as the user said cheerfully to me. 8-)

Greetings

You only need the command window open while you set the sync period, after that the Time Service re-syncs with the NTP server every [period] set by the period parameter (See w32tm /? for more info on what can be set with the period parameter, I usually go with 65532 [Once every 45 minutes until 3 good syncs, then every 8 hours), it seems to keep things very accurately set.) and you don't have to mess with the command prompt again, unless you wish to change the settings. Sorry I didn't say that explicitly in my original message.
