Governor Heineman has requested that Nebraska be granted the extension
to comply with REAL ID because the state cannot meet the May 2008
deadline. Without such an extension, Nebraska driver licenses would not
be accepted and we could not travel by air nor enter a federal building
unless we had a passport. The Legislature will need to monitor REAL ID
and I know we will continue in our discussions on this federal mandate.
