Finally cured it. Microsoft didn't suggest, in addition to the patches, to run a virus scanner on the machine too. Seems obvious, but still, as far as their documentation read, it seemed that their patches would remove it from their system. Thanks to Symantic for actually providing clear information and the Nimda removal tool! :)
