In the 1870's the US Calvary cornered 75 Apache warriors on top of Apache Leap Mountain.
The Apaches were outnumbered and chose to ride their horses off Apache Leap Mountain rather than be taken prisoners by their enemy.
Upon hearing of the tragic deaths of their loved ones, the wives and families of the warriors wept. As their tears hit the ground they solidified into gemstones today known as Apache Tears.
