New players are often confused: "Why do most townships have no town?"

In Nebraska (and much of the Midwest), a township is a geographical term - it's a way to divide counties into smaller 6-mile-by-6-mile sections for surveying and land records. A township is just a piece of land, not a settlement!

So while every location in the game is a "township" (a plot of land), only some townships have actual towns built on them - with trading posts, general stores, or other buildings. Many townships are just empty prairie, wilderness, or farmland.

Think of it this way:

  • Township = the land.
  • Town = what's built on it (if anything).
