1. Game Overview
Raid on the Forest of Horrors is a browser-based RPG set in an Enchanted Forest. You create a character, explore the forest, fight monsters in solo turn-based combat , earn gold and experience, buy better equipment, level up your skills, and climb the leaderboard.
The game resets on a daily cycle: each new day you receive fresh raids, gambling plays, and player challenges. If you are killed in combat you must wait until the next day to play again. The ultimate goal is to reach Level 12+, discover the Dragon Temple, and defeat the fearsome Tuklamok — the most terrifying creature in existence.
2. Creating Your Character
After registering an account and logging in, you are taken to the New Player screen. You choose a Player Name, a Character Class, and your character's Sex (male or female).
Character Classes
| Class | Description | Skill Buffs |
|---|---|---|
| ⚔️ Fighter | Masters of physical combat. High hit points and strong melee attacks. | Dexterity, Agility, Speed, Reflexes |
| 🧙 Magic User | Wielders of arcane power. Powerful special skills but more fragile in melee. | Electricity, Illusion, Thaumaturgy, Sorcery |
| 🥷 Thief | Experts in stealth and deception. Get shop discounts and surprise bonuses. | Dexterity, Wariness, Deception, Surprise |
Your class determines which guild you can join, which skill buffs you train, which weapons and armor you can equip, and your special skill in combat. Choose carefully — it cannot be changed!
3. The City Square (Hub)
The City Square is the heart of the Enchanted Forest and your main navigation hub. From here you can access every major area of the game:
- Explore — Enter the forest to raid monsters or heal.
- Challenge — Fight other players (online or offline).
- Tavern — Visit the Rose and Crown Inn for socializing, gambling, resting, and encounters.
- Bank — Deposit or withdraw gold to keep it safe.
- Weapon Shop — Buy or sell weapons.
- Armor Shop — Buy or sell armor.
- Your Guild — Access your class-specific guild (Fighters Guild, Guild of the Magii, or Thieves Guild).
- Training — Test yourself against the TestBot and level up.
The sidebar also provides quick links to Post Office, Attributes, Scoreboard, Activity Log, and Who's Online.
4. Exploring the Forest
From the City Square, click Explore to enter the forest. The Explore page offers three options:
- Raid — Enter combat against random monsters.
- Heal — Restore lost hit points (costs gold).
- Return to Town — Go back to the City Square.
You have a limited number of raids per day. Each raid puts you face-to-face with one or more monsters. Random Special Events may also occur between fights — you might find treasure, healing potions, gain a charm boost, earn bonus XP, receive a training point, or even discover the entrance to the Dragon Temple.
5. Raiding & Combat
Combat is solo and turn-based. When you enter a raid, a random monster (or group of monsters) appears. Either you or the monster may get the first strike — this is called initiative. Your Reflexes / Surprise buff improves your chance at striking first.
Combat Actions
- Attack — Swing your weapon at the monster. Hit chance is based on your level and Dexterity/Electricity buff vs. the monster's armor class. Damage is based on your weapon's die roll plus your Speed/Thaumaturgy buff.
- Use Special Skill — Available from Level 2+. Each class has unique special abilities. Magic Users can choose from multiple spells. Uses are limited per day.
- Use Healing Potion — If you have healing potions in your inventory and are below max HP, you can drink one mid-combat to restore health.
- Run — Attempt to flee the battle. Not guaranteed to succeed!
Multiple Monsters
You may encounter a group of the same monster type. Each must be defeated individually. If your attack does enough damage to kill one monster with leftover damage, the overkill can carry over to hit the next monster in line.
Victory Rewards
Defeating monsters earns you Experience Points (XP) and Gold Pieces (GP). Tougher monsters (higher Hit Dice) yield more rewards. Occasionally single weak monsters carry a bonus pouch of gold. After a victory you can Raid Again, Heal, Check Status, or Return to Town.
6. Healing
The Healing Chamber (accessible from Explore) restores your hit points up to your maximum. Healing costs gold, and the price is shown before you confirm. A progress bar displays your current HP percentage.
You can also use Healing Potions during combat. Potions are found as random Special Events while raiding or can be purchased at guild markets. Using a potion during a fight costs your action for that turn but can save your life.
7. Weapon & Armor Shops
The city has two shops, each run by a named proprietor with limited stock:
- Weapon Shop — Lists available weapons with their cost, damage dice (e.g., 2d6+1), and quantity in stock. Your currently equipped weapon is highlighted. When you buy a new weapon, your old one is returned to the shop.
- Armor Shop — Works the same way for armor, which affects your Armor Class (AC).
Class restrictions: Not every item can be used by every class. The shop will refuse to sell you a weapon or armor your class cannot wield.
Downgrade protection: The shopkeeper will warn you if you try to buy something worse than what you already have.
Thief bonus: Thieves receive a shop discount based on their Deception skill buff, up to a maximum of 50% off!
8. The Bank
The First National Bank lets you deposit and withdraw gold. Your account shows your bank balance and cash in hand.
Why bank your gold? Gold in hand can be lost when you are killed by another player in a challenge. Keeping reserves in the bank protects your wealth. Always deposit gold you don't need for immediate purchases.
9. The Rose and Crown Tavern
The tavern is a social and event hub with several activities:
- Talk to Other People — A chat room where players can post messages and read ongoing conversations.
- Flirt with the Waitress — A humorous flavor scene (no gameplay effect).
- Gambling — Play Thirteen Knockout (a card game where you try to avoid holding the lowest card) or Blackjack. Place bets with your gold; winnings pay out at 200%, 150%, or 100% depending on placement. You have a limited number of plays per day. You can also examine the card deck.
- Rent a Room — Pay to sleep at the inn, which ends your session for the day. Useful when you are done playing and want to log off safely.
- Klom Dark's Meteorite — Touch a mysterious cosmic artifact. First-time effects can be beneficial (full heal, stat boosts, charm increase). Touching it again deals damage based on your level and can kill you — be cautious!
- The Strange Man — A shadowy figure who offers three services: hear Rumors (world lore and hints), change your name (for a fee), or obtain keys to inn rooms for "dark business" involving other sleeping players.
10. Guilds
Each class has its own guild. You can only enter the guild matching your class — trying to enter another guild results in penalties (the Mage guild even damages you for trespassing!).
Guild Services
- Guild Market — Buy class-specific items and supplies not available in the regular shops (including healing potions).
- Advanced Training — Spend Training Points to raise your four skill buffs. Each buff has a specific combat effect (see the Skill Buffs table in Character Creation).
- Guild Message Board — A class-only discussion area to share tips with fellow guild members.
- View Attributes — Quick access to your full character stats from within the guild.
The Three Guilds
| Guild | Class | Flavor |
|---|---|---|
| Fighters Guild | Fighter | "Brotherhood of blade and steel" |
| Guild of the Magii | Magic User | "Masters of arcane arts and mystical forces" |
| Thieves Guild | Thief | "Experts in shadow and subterfuge" |
11. Training & Leveling Up
The Skill Training Center is accessible from the City Square and has two options:
- Enter the Arena (TestBot Challenge) — Face the TestBot to attempt advancement. The TestBot is set to a challenge level based on your current level. If you have earned enough XP, you defeat the TestBot in one swing and gain a level plus Training Points. If you lack the required XP, you fail and must come back tomorrow.
- Am I Ready to Advance? — Check whether you have enough XP to level up before wasting a trip to the arena.
Training Points are spent in your guild's Advanced Training area to improve your four skill buffs. You also occasionally earn bonus Training Points from Special Events while raiding.
What Skill Buffs Do
| Buff Slot | Fighter | Magic User | Thief | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buff 1 | Dexterity | Electricity | Dexterity | Increases your attack hit chance |
| Buff 2 | Agility | Illusion | Wariness | Decreases enemy attack hit chance |
| Buff 3 | Speed | Thaumaturgy | Deception | Increases your attack damage (Thief: shop discount) |
| Buff 4 | Reflexes | Sorcery | Surprise | Increases chance of striking first in battle |
12. Player Challenges (PvP)
Click Challenge from the City Square to battle other players, not monsters. You have a limited number of challenges per day.
Offline Challenges
Players who are logged off appear "In Camp." You can rudely awaken them and attack. Combat follows similar turn-based rules. If you defeat them, you earn XP and take their gold (but not their equipment). If they defeat you, you're killed for the day.
Online Challenges
Online players with an appropriate status can be challenged to real-time PvP combat. The challenged player can accept or reject. If accepted, a live turn-based battle begins through SignalR with timed turns. Each player can Attack, Heal, or Run. Players with "Do Not Disturb" or "In Combat" status cannot be challenged.
13. Post Office (Mail)
The Post Office is your mail system. From here you can:
- Read incoming messages — unread mail appears in bold with a closed-envelope icon.
- Compose and send messages to any player by selecting them from a dropdown.
- Reply to messages you've received.
- Delete messages you no longer need.
The sidebar "Post Office" link turns green when you have unread mail. Check it regularly!
14. The Dragon Temple
The Dragon Temple is a hidden area that only appears when you trigger the "Dragon Temple Discovered" Special Event during raiding. Once discovered, you can enter it from the raid area.
Inside the Temple
- Examine the Tome — Read lore from "Here Be Dragons" (many pages are missing).
- Scroll Remnant — Study an ancient, weathered scroll with clues.
- Pull the Lever — A random-effect lever on the wall. Each pull produces a different result — some beneficial, some dangerous. You can pull it multiple times, but beware: it can kill you.
The Tuklamok (Level 12+ Only)
If you are Level 12 or higher, the terrifying Tuklamok appears — a multi-dimensional horror and the game's ultimate boss. Before battle, you automatically drink a potion that boosts your HP but may cause permanent damage. The Tuklamok has massive hit points and devastating attacks. Defeating it is the greatest achievement in the game and earns a Championing recorded on the Scoreboard. This fight will likely take multiple lifetimes (attempts across days).
15. Scoreboard & Activity Log
Scoreboard (Leaderboard)
The Scoreboard ranks all players by XP. It shows each player's name, class, alive/dead status, last login date, XP, level, and Championings (Tuklamok defeats). The top three positions get medal icons. Your own row is highlighted.
Activity Log
The Activity page shows timestamped events for the current day: player kills, deaths, announcements, and notable achievements. You can view yesterday's log as well. You can also Make an Announcement — post a public message to the activity feed that all players can see.
16. Who's Online
The Online Players page shows everyone currently logged in, their status (Idle, Exploring, In Combat, etc.), and their last activity time. You can send a quick message to any online player directly from this page.
17. Character Attributes
The Attributes page (accessible from the sidebar or from within your guild) is your full character sheet. It displays:
- Name, XP, Level, Armor Class, Hit Points (current / max)
- Gold in hand and in bank
- Charm stat
- Equipped weapon and armor
- Character class
- Times online, raids remaining today, Thirteen Knockout plays remaining
- Special skill uses remaining (Level 2+)
- All four skill buffs with current values
- Training Points available
- Full inventory list with item quantities and conditions
18. Death & Returning
If your HP drops to zero (or below) during a raid, player challenge, Dragon Temple lever, meteorite touch, or Tuklamok fight, you die. Your death is announced in the Activity Log.
When dead, you cannot play until the next game day. Come back tomorrow — your character will be revived with full health and a fresh set of daily raids, challenges, and gambling plays. Your XP, level, bank gold, equipment, and inventory are preserved.
19. Advanced Strategy Tips
For players who know the basics and want to progress faster.
Gold Management
- Always bank your gold before challenging players or logging off. Gold in hand is lost when you die to a player challenge.
- Don't overspend on healing; withdraw only what you need for a session.
- Save up for meaningful weapon/armor upgrades rather than buying incrementally.
Efficient Raiding
- Invest training points in Buff 1 (hit chance) and Buff 3 (damage) early to kill monsters faster and take less cumulative damage.
- Keep healing potions in reserve — use them mid-combat only when critically low.
- When HP is low, heal between raids rather than risking death, which wastes a full day.
- Watch for the Healing Potion Special Event. If you're already at full HP, the potion is stored in your inventory for later use.
Skill Buff Priority
- Fighters: Prioritize Dexterity (hit chance) and Speed (damage). Once comfortable, raise Agility (dodge) for survivability and Reflexes for first strikes.
- Magic Users: Prioritize Electricity and Thaumaturgy to maximize special skill effectiveness. Illusion helps dodge attacks from tough monsters.
- Thieves: Raise Deception early for shop discounts (up to 50%) — this saves huge amounts of gold over time. Then invest in Dexterity and Surprise.
Leveling Strategy
- Check "Am I Ready to Advance?" in the Training Center before attempting the TestBot. Failing wastes a daily opportunity.
- Each level grants Training Points. Spend them promptly — untrained points are wasted potential.
- Higher levels unlock more Special Skill uses and increase HP, making raiding more efficient.
Player Challenges (PvP)
- Challenge offline players (sleeping in camp) for easier fights — they can't heal or run.
- Study the challenge list: opponent level and weapon are displayed. Avoid players with significantly better gear or higher levels.
- Challenges per day are limited — pick fights you can win.
Tavern Optimization
- Touch the Meteorite once — the first touch can give powerful benefits. Do NOT touch it a second time; it deals level-scaled damage and can kill you.
- Gambling in Thirteen Knockout can be profitable if you manage your bets and understand the card values (Ace=14, K=13, Q=12, J=11). Place smaller bets until you know the rhythm.
- Talk to the Strange Man for rumors — they sometimes contain useful gameplay hints.
- Rent a room at the inn when you're done for the day to log off safely.
Dragon Temple & Tuklamok Tips
- Pulling the lever is high-risk, high-reward. If you're low on HP, skip it.
- The Tuklamok fight spans multiple in-game days. Each attempt chips away at its massive HP pool. Don't be discouraged by dying — it's expected.
- Max out your weapon, armor, and skill buffs before seriously attempting the Tuklamok. Every point of damage and defense matters.
- Earning a Championing is the ultimate bragging right — displayed permanently on the Scoreboard.
General Tips
- Check the Activity Log daily to see what other players are doing and learn from their successes (and deaths).
- Use the Post Office to communicate with other players for trades, alliances, and tips.
- Visit the Scoreboard to track your ranking and set goals.
- Every combat encounter in this game is solo — there is no group combat. Build your character to be self-sufficient with a balance of offense, defense, and sustain.
Good luck, adventurer! The Forest of Horrors awaits.
